A little bit behind
Yeah, yeah…I know. I’ve let the blog realllllllyyyyy suffer. In my defense…well, I don’t really have one. I’m going to try and do better so please, please love me. Okay, I feel better. So, here are weeks 14 and 15 of the project 52. I’ve got 7 weeks to finsh 37 images. Not sure if I’ll get it done but I’m going to try. So, here they are….
Week # 14 … “Hidden Surprise”
Week 15….”Cooking”
Project 52…”Hidden Surprise”
Okay, I know I just posted a Project 52 pic but I shot this on the same night that I shot the Versus pic. The title of image is “Hidden Surprise”. I don’t have a long back story on this shot I was just looking for a fun concept. I love shooting different concepts. I love creating “art” with my camera. If you enjoy following my blog and seeing what new ideas I come up with then consider subscribing to the blog and getting updates directly to your inbox. Simply insert your email dress in the subscription bar on the right of this page and follow the directions!! The more followers I have the cooler I feel. ((Smile))
Now for some technical stuff for all my photog friends. I shot this with three flashes, all off camera. There are two flashes on the right and left of me pointing toward my shoulders. I have home made snoots on the flashes. The idea was to create some seperation from the background causing me to stand out a bit more. The third flash is inside the box and has a yellow gell on it. All three flashes were set to 1/8th power. The camera was set at 1/60th of a sec at f 5.6 and iso 100. Please leave me a comment and let me know what you think.
“Versus”…Project 52
Okay, I’m at it again. Last night about 10pm I got the urge to be creative and the result is….”Versus”….my next Project 52 image. Now if you’ve lived on planet earth for at least the last 10 years, you’ve heard of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). Well, the most well known of the MMA leauges is the “UFC” or Ultimate Fighting Championship. This image is my idea of what it would look like if I was in a UFC fight against…well, me. This is a little twist on my “Mirror, Mirror” image and ultimately the good and evil at battle within all of us. We’ve all felt it before….the battle within our hearts and minds between good and evil. It’s the battle that mankind has been fighting since the beginning. The Bible even talks about it in the book of Romans. Setting aside all this deep stuff I think I accomplished my goal of creating a really cool image.
Now for some techincal insight. I’ve included a shot of my actual set up for you. As you can see I’ve turned my laundry room into my shooting room. (My wife gets so annoyed…LOL). I have a 27 inch softbox camera right with a 300ws strobe on 1/4 power that I’m looking into. On the opposite side and slightly behind me I have an Off Camera Flash acting as a kicker light to give the shadow side some seperation. I believe it was set to 1/8 power. I used a 4ft white reflector below the main light to add some fill. My camera settings were 1/90 at iso 200 with my apature at f.5.6. I took both images in the exact same place and simply flipped the second shot in photoshop so it was facing the first one. That’s it. If you have any questions or feedback make sure to leave me a comment.
The fight of the century!!!
My laundry room turned studio….nice!
Attack of the Books
Here is the next installment in the “Project 52″ series entitled….”Attack of the Books”. If you want to know more about the project and if you want to see the rest of the series you can find it all here. Here is the story for this shot. I love to read. I love books. I love to read books. When I was first married Julie would get so aggrivated with me because I would stay up into the late hours of the night reading. Well, little has changed. I have a garage full of plastic totes and those totes are filled with books. I love books. Last weekend while we where camping I managed to read a six hundred page novel. How, I stayed up late and read. I love books and reading…get it? Good. Well my idea with this shot was to create a “dream” like effect where my books have “turned” on me and have started to attack me. I thought it would be a fun idea and I’m pleased with how it turned out. I hope you enjoy. As always please leave a comment. Now here is some technical stuff for all the other photogs our there. This photo is actually 12 individual photos stiched together to form a composite. The first pic was of me. I have four flashed set up around the room and I’m shooting from a tripod set low in my entry way. I have two flashed on either side of me and slightly back behind me. I have a third flash on a boom arm over my head and slightly in front of me. The fouth flash is camera right. They were all fired wirelessly and the settings were….ISO 100, 1/180 sec at f 5.6. For the rest of the pics I had my wife throwing books, papers, etc. while I sat on the floor and shot them. Once I had the pics I pieced them together in photoshop and ….Walla!!
