Rock’n Roll

My sons both started playing instruments this year. They have big plans to start a band and rock out. The other night they asked if we could do a photo shoot with their instruments. We had a blast and the images captured their mood perfectly!!

“Versus”…Project 52

Okay, I’m at it again. Last night about 10pm I got the urge to be creative and the result is….”Versus”….my next Project 52 image. Now if you’ve lived on planet earth for at least the last 10 years, you’ve heard of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). Well, the most well known of the MMA leauges is the “UFC” or Ultimate Fighting Championship. This image is my idea of what it would look like if I was in a UFC fight against…well, me. This is a little twist on my “Mirror, Mirror” image and ultimately the good and evil at battle within all of us. We’ve all felt it before….the battle within our hearts and minds between good and evil. It’s the battle that mankind has been fighting since the beginning. The Bible even talks about it in the book of Romans. Setting aside all this deep stuff I think I accomplished my goal of creating a really cool image.

Now for some techincal insight. I’ve included a shot of my actual set up for you. As you can see I’ve turned my laundry room into my shooting room. (My wife gets so annoyed…LOL). I have a 27 inch softbox camera right with a 300ws strobe on 1/4 power that I’m looking into. On the opposite side and slightly behind me I have an Off Camera Flash acting as a kicker light to give the shadow side some seperation. I believe it was set to 1/8 power. I used a 4ft white reflector below the main light to add some fill. My camera settings were 1/90 at iso 200  with my apature at f.5.6. I took both images in the exact same place and simply flipped the second shot in photoshop so it was facing the first one. That’s it. If you have any questions or feedback make sure to leave me a comment.

The fight of the century!!!

My laundry room turned studio….nice!

Our Photo Small Group

Julie and I go to an awesome church in Lebanon, In. called Freedom Church. We’ve been going there for about a year now. One of the many things that Freedom does well is it’s “Small Group” ministry. Last winter we decided to jump in with both feet and we led a group that was a game night for families. We got to know so many awesome people and we had a real blast. Well, when summer rolled around I decided to lead a group for those interested in photography. We have been going strong for a month now and have been having a great time. We’ve got people on all different skill levels so it has been challenging. Each week we have talked about different aspect of photography from camera basics, composition, lighting, etc. Each week we have and assignment and we’re supposed to bring back samples to share. Leading the group has been so good for me because in the process of teaching and sharing I find myself learning. Well, below I’ve attached two quick pics from our group. One is a snap shot of our group and the other is a picture of Emma who so graciously agreed to be out model last night. When we set this shot up it was about 7pm. We used two off camera flashes one on camera right in front of Emma and one on camera left slightly behind her acting as a hair light. The camera was set to 1/125 at f8. I think Emma did a great job as a model. If you are interested in our small group or in Freedom Church just drop me a note. Our group runs for one more month.
