The Boys
Wow, it’s hard to believe that summer is almost over….at least at my house. My boys will be going back to school in a few weeks. I remember growing up we didn’t go back to school until the week before Labor Day. Well, I got the boys to model for me last night and I thought I’d share a few pics. These were shot in our driveway. The field in the background is across the street. We often see deer and turkey walking through the field. A week or so ago we had a coyote walk thorugh the field and cross the road. As always please feel free to leave feedback.
Birthday at Indiana Dunes
Last week was my oldest sons Birthday. He turned 11 years old. I have to admit I wasn’t super thrilled about it. Seeing my kids grow up gives me some serious mixed emotions. On the one hand I’m as proud of can be of both of my sons. I thank God every day for the honor of being their Dad. I believe being a Dad is the most important thing that I do. On the other hand seeing them getting older just reminds me that time is slipping a way and makes me a bit sad. Well, last week for Gavyn’s B-day we took him camping at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore with my parents. We had a blast. If you’ve never been to the dunes then your missing out. They are beautiful, clean and if you live in Indiana….close. If you haven’t been…..GO!!! I’ve attached a few pics of the boys to give you a little taste of our mini-vacation and B-day festivities. Enjoy. (PS. these were taken with and iPhone)
Happy Birthday to you!!!!

Skater Dude
My nine year old son Trey wants to be the next Tony Hawk. The problem is we live in the country and have a gravel road and gravel driveway. The only place for him to practice is inside the garage. Now here is a moment of complete honesty. Our garage is a “MESS” and it’s not the best place for a nine year old Tony Hawk wannabe to practice. So, he ends up taking his skateboard with us in our van when we go places in hopes of being able to skate. This last weekend we spent time at my parents for Father’s Day. Well, Trey brought his skateboard and we even took him to the local park where they have a “skatepark”. He was in “nine year old heaven.” I took this pic of him last night in my parents drive way. Here is some tech info for any other photogs out there who might be interested. I used two small sunpak flash units off camera. The one on Camera right was a little bit above head level pointed down with a shoot thru umbrella. The other flash was on camera left behind Trey about 5 ft and at about his waist level pointing back at him and up. The camera was set at ISO 400 and the shot was made at 1/10th of a second to allow the ambient light in the sky to show up a bit. It was shot at f5.6. The main light was set to 1/2 power and the kicker light was set to 1/8th power. In photoshop I just tweeked levels and curves a little bit. Other than that this is straight from the camera. Let me know what you think.
Family Vacation…
Last week we were in Springfield, Mo. on our family vacation. We spent the week with my wife Julie’s family. We spent time by the pool, went to Bass Pro Shop, and spent one day at Silver Dollar City. The boys got to play all week with their cousins and they had a blast. What would a visit with family be without an impromptu photo session. I got the kids together and did a little shoot in the park. I have to admit…we’ve got some cute kids!! We got back from vacation on Friday and after a relaxing weekend we’re ready to hit the ground running!
