Project 52….”Guitar Man”

Here is another “Project 52″ self portrait. If you haven’t been following along I’ve been trying to do a self portrait a week for the entire year. You can check out the earlier pics here.  Here is a little back story on this pic. While growing up I had an old guitar that I goofed around with. I never got very good. I did play back-up for our church band for a VERY short time. My guitar actually got stolen out of the church…hmmmm, I think someone was trying to send me a message. LOL.  Well, my oldest son loves music and wants to learn to play so we bought him this guitar and he’s been messing around with it. As you can tell it isn’t a full size guitar but it works great for his hands. I shot this at 9pm with three off camera flashes. One camera left slightly behind me. One camera right slightly in front of me and one on a boom arm above me. This was shot at 1/30 at f8 at ISO 100. Let me know what you think …..and…..ROCK ON!!!

Film Making Inspiration

Some of you already know but I love to dabble in filmmaking. Now, I’m extremely low budget and simple but none the less I love it. I have a huge desire to build this skill area up in my life. I play around with video editing and filming but I hope to start taking it to a new level. I came across this video about Film Makers  Curt Morgan and Brain Farm on a blog that I frequent. The blog is by commercial photographer Chase Jarvis. When you see the video and if your into filmaking at all you’ll be inspired and challenged. Our Photo Small Group

Julie and I go to an awesome church in Lebanon, In. called Freedom Church. We’ve been going there for about a year now. One of the many things that Freedom does well is it’s “Small Group” ministry. Last winter we decided to jump in with both feet and we led a group that was a game night for families. We got to know so many awesome people and we had a real blast. Well, when summer rolled around I decided to lead a group for those interested in photography. We have been going strong for a month now and have been having a great time. We’ve got people on all different skill levels so it has been challenging. Each week we have talked about different aspect of photography from camera basics, composition, lighting, etc. Each week we have and assignment and we’re supposed to bring back samples to share. Leading the group has been so good for me because in the process of teaching and sharing I find myself learning. Well, below I’ve attached two quick pics from our group. One is a snap shot of our group and the other is a picture of Emma who so graciously agreed to be out model last night. When we set this shot up it was about 7pm. We used two off camera flashes one on camera right in front of Emma and one on camera left slightly behind her acting as a hair light. The camera was set to 1/125 at f8. I think Emma did a great job as a model. If you are interested in our small group or in Freedom Church just drop me a note. Our group runs for one more month.

Operation BBQ

Here is the latest installment to my “Project 52″.  I call this one OPERATION BBQ.  For those of you who don’t know I LOVE to cook on the grill. Not a gas grill either but a  good ole’ charcoal grill. Nothing tastes better that meat and veggies cooked over a charcoal fire. I am the official BBQ Chef when my family gets together. As a matter of fact last Thanksgiving I cooked/smoked the official turkey for our Thanksgiving feast over a charcoal and hickory chip fire. For this image I was going for a cartoonish type effect. Project 52…week 9

I started a personal project at the begining of the year. The idea was to do one “self portrait” per week for 52 weeks. My hope was that I would push my creative juices. Also my wife and kids were getting tired of me pointing the camera at them .  The year started off good but I quickly got behind and now here we are half way through the year and I’m only on week 9. I’ve had several people drop me emails asking me for my next installment. So to all those faithful viewers I make a vow….well, atleast a heartfelt promise…errr, it’s my sincere goal. To get back on track and to catch up with this project. With that in mind let me present….”Old McDonald”…this image was shot at 3pm in my back yard using off camera flash. I then tweaked it in photoshop, added a texture layer, used a sepia action and added an old border. I had a blast creating this one and have several more good ideas for the next few weeks. So I hope you enjoy this and please let me know what you think.
