Operation BBQ

Here is the latest installment to my “Project 52″.  I call this one OPERATION BBQ.  For those of you who don’t know I LOVE to cook on the grill. Not a gas grill either but a  good ole’ charcoal grill. Nothing tastes better that meat and veggies cooked over a charcoal fire. I am the official BBQ Chef when my family gets together. As a matter of fact last Thanksgiving I cooked/smoked the official turkey for our Thanksgiving feast over a charcoal and hickory chip fire. For this image I was going for a cartoonish type effect. I hope you enjoy this pic. You can find all the other “Project 52″ photos here. As always let me know what you think.

Skater Dude

My nine year old son Trey wants to be the next Tony Hawk. The problem is we live in the country and have a gravel road and gravel driveway. The only place for him to practice is inside the garage. Now here is a moment of complete honesty. Our garage is a “MESS” and it’s not the best place for a nine year old Tony Hawk wannabe to practice. So, he ends up taking his skateboard with us in our van when we go places in hopes of being able to skate. This last weekend we spent time at my parents for Father’s Day. Well, Trey brought his skateboard and we even took him to the local park where they have a “skatepark”.  He was in “nine year old heaven.” I took this pic of him last night in my parents drive way. Here is some tech info for any other photogs out there who might be interested. I used two small sunpak flash units off camera. The one on Camera right was a little bit above head level pointed down with a shoot thru umbrella. The other flash was on camera left behind Trey about 5 ft and at about his waist level pointing back at him and up. The camera was set at ISO 400 and the shot was made at 1/10th of a second to allow the ambient light in the sky to show up a bit. It was shot at f5.6. The main light was set to 1/2 power and the kicker light was set to 1/8th power. In photoshop I just tweeked levels and curves a little bit. Other than that this is straight from the camera. Let me know what you think.

The Love of my Life

I finally did it! Did what? Got my wife in front of the camera with me. She hates having her picture taken but every once in while, when she’s in the right mood, I can get her to pose for me. In this picture we were at the park and I gave the camera to my 9 year old and told him to snap away as I got Julie to pose with me. This summer we will be married 17 years and Ihave to tell you we have as much fun together as we did 17 years ago as college students. I really did marry my best friend. Well, enjoy this picture.

Project 52…week 9

I started a personal project at the begining of the year. The idea was to do one “self portrait” per week for 52 weeks. My hope was that I would push my creative juices. Also my wife and kids were getting tired of me pointing the camera at them .  The year started off good but I quickly got behind and now here we are half way through the year and I’m only on week 9. I’ve had several people drop me emails asking me for my next installment. So to all those faithful viewers I make a vow….well, atleast a heartfelt promise…errr, it’s my sincere goal. To get back on track and to catch up with this project. With that in mind let me present….”Old McDonald”…this image was shot at 3pm in my back yard using off camera flash. I then tweaked it in photoshop, added a texture layer, used a sepia action and added an old border. I had a blast creating this one and have several more good ideas for the next few weeks. So I hope you enjoy this and please let me know what you think.

Ashley’s Quinceanera Photo’s

I had the privilege to do a shoot for Ashley yesterday. Next week is her 15th Birthday. In the spanish culture the 15th birthday for a girl is like a sweet sixteen. Ashley and all her best girlfiends got all fixed up and we met up at memorial Park in Lebanon, In. We had a blast. We got a bunch of fun shots with her and her friends, her sisters, and her nephews (although the youngest did not want to be dressed up). We then went down town Lebanon and got some shots in one of the alley’s.  Ashley, thanks for letting me help create some memories for you. I hope you love you images. Here are a few of the shots that we got.
